Beautiful Bondi

Going to Bondi Beach (specifically, seeing Bondi Icebergs) was on my mini Sydney Bucket list hence why I was so adamant on making this trip down to Bondi happen. I went over to Bondi on a Wednesday, just after a day we arrived in Sydney. The weather was glorious! Pretty sure it was one of the best weather conditions out of the 9 days that I was there, perfect for a day down to the beach. Cool crisp air, fairly strong winds and the glistening sun shining down upon us.

My interest and amusement of Bondi Beach sparked off solely because of watching tons of Bondi Rescue and my love for beaches. But more so were the tons of pictures I saw online of not only the beach but Bondi Icebergs, the ever so famous pool by the beach.

I highly recommend anyone visiting Sydney to head down to Bondi Beach. A half-day trip is more than enough and it is highly accessible.  I suggest taking a train down to bondi junction station then taking the bus down to the beach itself. It took me about 50 minutes altogether from the city to the beach itself so give yourself ample travelling time.

Getting there:

  • I took my train from Central station.
  • The stations in order are Central, Town Hall, Martin Place, Kings Cross, Edgecliff and Bondi Junction.
  • Bondi Junction is the station where you should come off to
  • The train ride takes 11 minutes from Town Hall to Bondi Junction.
  • Then hop onto bus 380, 381, 382 or 333 bus for a 15 minute ride to the beach.
  • I stopped at the bus stop along Campbell Pde near Francis St which is closest to the Bondi Icebergs.

Zaku Zaku ザクザク

Can you smell freshly baked pastries???… mmmm…!!! Let me introduce Zaku Zaku, yes Zaku Zaku, a rather catchy name innit? This place is heavenly… they definitely serve one of the best desserts in Tokyo! The store I went to in Harajuku sold the soft serve (exclusive at Harajuku’s outlet) and the croquant chou. Their ingredients used are of high quality: wheat flour and milk used to make the soft serve and croquant chou sticks are all from Hokkaido.

Being the sweet tooth I am, I got both the soft serve and the ever so famous croquant chou! Thankfully the queue wasn’t snake long and I only waited for about 8 minutes. The staff are also really organized and efficient, they have like some structured system going on so the line moves quite fast!

As you can see, menu is very straightforward and clear. What you see is what you get!

Let’s talk about this gorg soft serve I had right here. Exclusive at the Harajuku outlet, this soft serve is worth the try! Yes some may just see it and go “aiyah soft serve only…” but trust me, the taste of this was amazinggg! It was a very milky kind of soft serve with a hint of sweetness and vanilla. It’s actually really light tasting and the crushed sweetened almonds around gave it a nice crunch and paired SO well with the milky soft serve. I am not so much an ice cream girl but woah this was just pure bliss.

It wasn’t this slanted when I received it but I think my excited hands shook it a little too much causing it to go all sideways haha!

Now moving on to the ever so famous croquant chou. It looks like a gigantic churro but nope it is way better than that! It is choux cream pastry in a stick form and coated evenly in crushed sweetened almonds. When I got mine, it was still slightly warm and put in such a nice packaging.

Still warm! You can just hold this, devour it and continue walking around. Fuss free!

For the inside, the custard cream is made with high quality milk from Hokkaido. The custard cream was so smooth, not lumpy at all and no overly sweet taste after every bite. The custard cream was really the game changer because I have never tasted such smooth and flavourful custard cream ever!

Look at the inside… the cream was so smooth and not overly sweet at all! Now I know why Zaku Zaku is so highly raved!

Please make Zaku Zaku a stop if you are ever in Tokyo! It is worth every calorie and would make you wanna crave for more. Hopefully they branch out and open up a store in Singapore soon because I am already craving for more. Head to their website for more information.

Homemade Acai Bowl (Vegan)

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

I am obsessed with Acai Bowls, I have it at least twice a week, or sometimes even more! (Some call me an Acai Addict haha). I usually get my Acai fix at Project Acai @ Takashimaya or An Acai Affair @ Katong! Both places are definitely my go to places! I did a short review on An Acai Affair so please do check it out! But for now, let me just share with you this quick, healthy, vegan and easy Acai Bowl recipe.

2 Sambazon Original Blend Packets

3 table spoons of coconut water

1/2 Banana

Handful of frozen spinach

Toppings: Fresh Seasonal Fruit (I used Mangoes and kiwis), Rolled Oats and Chia Seeds. However, granola, coconut flakes, hemp seeds and bananas make really great toppings as well!

How To Make It:

Put everything in the blender (make sure to break up the packs), blend until really thick/smooth – adding more coconut water/non dairy milk if necessary – then pour into a bowl and top with all the endless toppings you want! If it is too watery, put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes before consuming.

Head over to this page for more Acai recipes. Whatever recipe you try, it’ll turn out fabulous, trust me!

Where Can I Get It:

I got my the frozen Acai packets from Project Acai @ Takashimaya, Ngee Ann City. They have a whole fridge dedicated to all things Acai/take home Acai packets. They even have Acai Ice Cream! Bare in mind that they don’t give any dry ice and it needs to be in a freezer back home safest within 40 to 45 minutes.

An Acai Affair

Yumz in my tumz!

What is Acai? How does it taste like? What’s so good about it?

Acai (AH-SIGH-EE), an anti-inflammatory and high-antioxidant super berry. Acai bowls are definitely one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE foods to eat. I can even have it as a meal replacement because it’s just so wholesome and always leaves me feeling amazing. It tastes a tad bit like tons of berries being mixed together into one concoction. It is on the sweeter side and is usually of an icy/thick smoothie texture. It is usually topped with endless of “good for you” kinda toppings such as cocoa nibs, fruits, granola, coconut shavings, chia/flax/pumpkin seeds and goji berries etc.

There are currently quite a few places in Singapore serving Acai Bowls and the new kid on the block; An Acai Affair is one place you got to check out! Located along East Coast Road/somewhere really close to my place, I was so excited when I found out that an acai place was opening nearby.

Walked in and was pleasantly greeted by the two staff present. They were both so cheerful and eager to serve. The menu was surprisingly interesting and I had a pretty tough choice choosing what I wanted. I ordered the Acai Bowl in the medium sized cup. I had toppings such as granola, coconut shavings, chia seeds, fruits and peanut butter! There was even one on the menu that really caught my eye, it was an Acai Bowl in a coconut husk! Will definitely try that out the next time I head back. They even have a secret garden at the back that has a very tumblr-ish and bohemian look with mandala tapestry lying around. I would totally enjoy my Acai Bowl out there but with such humidity in Singapore, it was way too hot to do so… My Acai Bowl would have melted away instantly! But still, it was a nice area to take some nice pictures!

Head down to An Acai Affair to get your Acai fix covered and when you’re there, be ready to take tons of instagram-worthy pictures and explore around the area! There are many other great food places around to explore such as Birds of Paradise, Island Creamery and 328 Katong Laksa.

This was taken at their secret garden, a really cozy and boho looking area! It was too humid for me to be seated outdoors though… My acai would have melted away haha!

Another year has passed, another year has come.

“Whatever happens in your life, no matter how troubling things might seem, do not enter the neighborhood of despair. Even when all doors remain closed, God will open up a new path only for you. Be thankful!” ― Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love

What a crazy year it has been! Tons of ups and downs but it was definitely a year where I met tons of new people, explored and struggled academically. Many hate how fast time flies but at the moment, I’m glad it kinda is! Eagerly counting down to the day when I graduate from the school I horribly detest (aka never ever returning to Woodlands) and hopefully moving right on to study communications/public relations. Well and of course to squeeze in some traveling time! Probably back to the UK and US!

2016 started amazingly well. It was that kinda start where I felt so content, like everything was finally getting better… but it’s always temporary bliss isn’t it? I fell in love with someone whom turned out to be someone I never expected (ultimate jerk). I had to study modules that were not my forte hence pulling my GPA down so badly. Mother lim was having a really tough time at work, constantly coming back snappy or in tears. I fell sick so often, not being able to go in for class. Crying and worrying too much, about my future, my studies and life in general. But with that said, I think I have definitely grown to be more mature about handling things, decisions and even people. It’s always the tough times that really teach you something, from becoming stronger and having faith. I’ve learnt that sometimes, the only way to continue hustling and to keep moving on was to psycho myself. Constantly reminding myself to have the end in mind and that there will be greater things to come because sometimes, good things fall apart to make room for better things.

I opened myself to numerous things in 2016. As i said, I met such new amazing people (some whom I’ve become pretty close to). I traveled quite a fair bit and explored numerous places. I found my passion and chose what I aim to study in Uni. I got into hot yoga and was taught by such an amazing yoga teacher. I started cooking/meal prepping a whole lot more, experimenting with recipes and ingredients. I’ve come to slowly realize who my true friends are and those I can count on. It’s been a crazy ride and life can only get crazier. However, I pray that the new year would be more smooth sailing. I want to excel in my final year and to always remember to try my best in all that I do. I will be turning the big 20 this February, and I know that life would definitely get more complicated but I know that it’ll be more fulfilling as well. I know what I want, I know what I need. I will work hard and persevere on. I will stop caring too much for people who don’t appreciate me nor my efforts. I will do better! So can you! ♥

To those reading this, YOU are amazing. You have survived and lived for another year. Be grateful, have faith, work hard and don’t ever give up. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it means a lot.

Ballin in Bali

Being back in Bali just after a year was so surreal especially when I’ve been going to Bali annually for the past 3 to 4 years? Well this trip was even more special and very close to my heart as it was for a wedding! (Plus me being able to skip a couple days of school, rebel me ya haha!)

The wedding was oh so grand and one I’ll never ever forget. It was father lim’s close buddy’s wedding and my whole fam bam went up to Bali for it! Being quite frequent with Bali, we had everything pretty much planned out. However, this time with brother lim being legal, we decided to drop a visit to the ever so famous Rock Bar in Bali.

A little bit about Rock Bar Bali, it’s a open concept kinda bar on natural rocks 14 over meters above the Indian Ocean at the base of AYANA Resort and Spa Bali’s. AYANA resort itself is such an amazingly beautiful complex! My family and I got there at about 4.45pm to supposedly catch the sunset but it was a tad bit of a fail because it was pretty cloudy! But ahh the after-dark sensation when the sun fully sets is just amazing! The bar gets lighted up so nicely and it just feels so cozy! Especially with the breeze and finger food/drinks, yumz! Additionally, there’s a DJ there that spins house music!

All in all, I had spent a great time with my family there! The service was excellent, finger foods (especially the sushi, calamaris and thai fishcakes) and drinks were nice but more importantly the chill vibes/ambience was just so beautiful! Remember to take tons of pictures whilst your’e there too! Feel free to check my review out here

Keep exploring, seek and find. You know you might surprise yourself.
